Yesterday, the 8th of March, was an important date on the calendar and not just in the iGaming industry. International Women’s Day is the day when we celebrate the achievements of women across industry, culture, and society. It’s also the time when we bring awareness to gender equality and push to make continued progress in that regard. The iGaming industry has made big strides in recent years to promote and support equality for women, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
In a show of support for International Women’s Day, a number of the biggest iGaming brands took the time to post their messages of support for the women working within their firms across various social media channels. Live providers such as EGT Interactive, a new live casino provider with 4 titles so far, and Pragmatic Play Live, and slot developers including Play’n GO, Lady Luck Games, Tom Horn Gaming, BetSoft, NetEnt, and NoLimit City are just a few examples of iGaming brands that came out in support of a special international day that has run for over 100 years. Many others followed suit throughout the day, which shows that the industry is trying to pull together to ensure that women are treated equally within iGaming.
Many brands shared pictures or short posts about particular staff members, while others posted strong messages about the need to improve equality within the industry. Many of the posts also included pictures of some of the many popular female characters used within popular casino titles.
Pragmatic Play Live Donates to €10k to SOAR – The latest in a Long Line of Charitable Donations
While the obvious support for such an important day was clear to see, some iGaming firms actually went a step further. Pragmatic Play Live, for instance, made a considerable €10k donation to SOAR, a Malta foundation that offers support services to women who have been victims of violent abuse while in a relationship. This foundation offers one-to-one support, support groups, social clubs, and more, as it tries to support those that need it and bring awareness about a big problem with Malta. Statistics show that one-third of all women in the country have been on the receiving end of violent abuse.
On this donation, Julian Jarvis, Pragmatic Play’s CEO, made a statement claiming Pragmatic Play is a big advocate of the work that SOAR does for abused women in Malta. He also claimed that he was proud of the collaborative efforts of the firm and SOAR, as well as the financial donation made.
Pragmatic Play Live, one of the fastest-growing live casino providers in the industry, is no stranger to making donations to local charities. The firm regularly dips its hands into its pockets to provide support to those that need it. Just a few months back on Christmas Eve, the company made a donation to the Philanthropic Foundation worth a combined €28k. This foundation helps support child sufferers of cancer. Before that, in September, the 2021 SBC Award Winning firm made donations totalling €40k to five European charities, including an animal hospital and the YMCA.
It is great to see the support shown by the iGaming industry for such an important day, and we’re sure that women will appreciate that the industry is taking the steps to change. It is difficult to believe that we are still having discussions about gender-equality in 2022, and while International Women’s Day does a great job of promoting equality, we have to ensure that this does not get forgotten for the rest of the year.
Wishing every woman a happy International Women’s Day!
