The BCLC recently warned us about some sketchy online casinos targeting people here in British Columbia. These fake sites make themselves look like real casinos to try and steal your personal and financial information.

They promote themselves on social media like Facebook and Instagram, trying to lure you in with offers of big bonuses and promotions that actual casinos don’t offer. And get this—they even use logos and pictures of real casinos around here to look legit!

“You need to be real careful around these sneaky scams,” the BCLC said. If you’re ever unsure about an online casino, give them a call or chat with them.

They also wanted to remind you that stuff like PlayNow.com won’t ask for things like your social insurance number just to claim a prize. Their sportsbook, poker and lottery apps are the only mobile gambling stuff approved by the BCLC in BC at the moment. If you think one of these casinos scammed you, be sure to report it to the police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. With more British Columbians targeted by these schemes lately, we all need to be smart and double check things out there online.

Currently Canada has several licensing authorities including the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), while most players outside Ontario sign up for casinos under Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), Curacao eGaming licensing authorties, and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission (KGC).

Information covering all licensing authorities in Canada are available on the Canadian live casino guide. Check the ‘Online Gambling Licenses in Canada’ section for information on other casino licensing authorities operating in the coutry,

How to Check Casino Licensing – Don’t be scammed

Wondering if an online casino plays by the rules? Smart thinking. Checking their license helps you know if a gambling site cares about player safety and fair games. Here’s what you can do:

Take a peek at their website. Reputable places proudly show license details at the bottom or on their “About” page. See which gaming authority granted it – common ones are the UK Commission, Malta Authority, Gibraltar Authority, and such. Head to that agency’s site and verify the license yourself. Use their license search tools or give them a call to confirm things. Keep an eye out for seals of approval on the site. Click them to visit the official agency website. And don’t forget to read some player reviews on independent review sites and forums. That’s where you’ll spot complaints on sketchy licensing situations.

Properly licensed sites matter because:

  • It means they follow local laws and regulations about gambling. Keeps things on the up and up for you as a player.
  • Licensed places use certified random game software. So you can trust the outcomes are fair.
  • They have security measures for payments and personal info. Don’t want your stuff getting into the wrong hands.
  • Licensing groups help you sort disputes over payments or other issues. Good to have backup.
  • Many have responsible gambling tools to help you manage time and money spent. Helps you stay thoughtful.
  • Public licensing info means accountability. Authorities audit these sites to keep them helping, not harming.

So there you have it! Be sure to check that license so you know an online casino plays fair and cares about player safety. Let me know if you need anything else! For more information,
