The AGE or Australasian Gaming Expo has been canceled once more. This was made known by the organizers, who stated that they had to make the “unavoidable decision.” This drastic measure was due to the increasing numbers of people infected by Covid-19 in New South Wales, Australia. The new date for the next edition has been slated for August 9th to 11th, 2022. It was made known in an announcement on Wednesday.

The Gaming Technologies Association promotes this exhibition, and it consists of some of the top casino equipment suppliers in the world. Initially, the event was stipulated to run from 10th to August 12th this year, at the International Convention Centre Sydney.

Statement from the AGE Promoters

According to a statement made by the promoters, the decision to reschedule the event was because the lockdown in New South Wales was extended with no foreseeable end. In the announcement, it was stated that the Gaming Technologies Association chief executive, Chis Muir pointed out that:

Due to the closeness to the AGE, closure of borders, and the unknown restrictions of the government’s plan to end the lockdown, there was a need to make a move now.  The organizers further noted that they had checked out other dates the event could hold later this year, but majorly because of the size of the event, it was impossible to allocate any date for it to hold in 2021.

About the Australasian Gaming Expo

The AGE is like the Las Vegas Global Gaming Expo, but the Australian version. The Las Vegas Global Gaming Expo is the biggest yearly gathering of professionals and organizations in the gaming sector around the world. The AGE was developed in 1990 and regularly pulls in about 7,000 visitors. The AGE focuses on the Australian casino market and other casino markets all around Asia. It is a convention that draws in the biggest and most reputable gaming developers on the globe. Some of these include IGT based in the United States, Scientific Games from UK, and Aristocrat based in Australia.

Muhir went on to state that industry relations will continue to take place remotely. He also stated that:

They had observed important initiatives from the exhibitors in the AGE over the last 18 months, as they use technology and physical distancing measures to offer support for businesses. He also stated that they would continuously link sellers with buyers as the gaming industry continues to recover.

Released Memo Previously Confirmed Event to Hold

The AGE organizers sent out a memo two weeks back where they confirmed that the event still planned to hold in August this year. However, the severity of the Covid-19 outbreak has caused increased safety measures in Sydney and areas close to it. On Tuesday, 89 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in New South Wales, which led to much tighter lockdown restrictions in Sydney. According to the New South Wales authorities, there was no roadmap in place regarding when the lockdown might end. This was the case even though it was previously slated to end on July 16th.
