The 2022/23 National Hockey League (NHL) is now underway and BetMGM has made a move to strengthen its relationship with the league by launching a range of NHL-branded casino games. Those games are now available to players that have access to the operator’s platforms in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the Canadian province of Ontario.
BetMGM hopes that the release of these engaging virtual and live casino titles will help to increase fan engagement with the NHL. Developed in partnership with and powered by Evolution, the games will offer an immersive experience for players via NHL-branding, 3D renderings and animations. The logos of each team that will take part in the 2022/23 season will cycle through the rendered arena that features on all titles.
Players can choose to play a virtual variation of each game or click a ‘Go Live’ button to be taken to Evolution’s live casino version. Essentially, Evolution has used its popular ‘First Person’ technology to create both RNG and live casino games that Hockey fans can enjoy.
The standard virtual games feature lifelike graphics and will appeal because there are no time limits or queuing times. Players can play those titles at their own pace because they don’t have to wait for other players to act. Those that want the ultimate casino experience, however, will want to take part in the live action. Each title is streamed live and hosted by a fully trained dealer, croupier, or presenter. A community chat room gives players the ability to converse with each other and even the dealers.
The First Person range currently consists of 13 titles, including Roulette, Blackjack, Craps, Mega Ball, and Deal or No Deal. However, just a handful has been given NFL branding at BetMGM.
The Evolution-Powered BetMGM NHL Games
The titles given the NHL treatment at BetMGM so far include:
- NHL Blackjack: This is a branded variation of Evolution’s standard Blackjack. As you play, you can admire a skybox within a virtual ice hockey arena. When you switch seats, your view realistically changes.
- NHL Baccarat: Like other First Person titles, this game plays and feels similar to taking a seat at a table in a land-based casino. That is enhanced further when you click the ‘Go Live’ button.
- NHL Roulette: The RNG variation features realistic ball movements and has statistics and histories to help players make betting decisions.
- NHL Dream Catcher: Dream Catcher is Evolution’s original wheel of fortune gameshow. You bet on numbers and will win multipliers of your stake when luck shines down on you.
It is not clear if BetMGM plans to launch other NHL-branded casino games, but those chosen represent a solid selection either way. Personally, I love Crazy Time, Mega Ball, and Cash or Crash, so feel that those titles would be good additions. Still, I am not based in any of those US states or Ontario, so it is irrelevant anyway.
BetMGM’s Director of Gaming, Oliver Bartlett, said of the launch: “The launch of these one-of-a-kind games further strengthens our relationship with the NHL. We cannot wait to see the reception these branded tables receive. We are confident they will go down well.”
BetMGM Not New Sports-Themed Live Casino Games
BetMGM has previous experience when it comes to engaging sports fans at its online casino and sports betting platforms. For instance, earlier this year, the operator launched live blackjack and roulette tables themed on the Philadelphia 76ers. Those tables proved hugely popular at the BetMGM and Borgata online casinos in Pennsylvania.
