Gambling Crime

Looking for news covering crime in gambling? Following the dice cheat scandal, illegal advertising in NZ, a streamer in court & a con artist! (Photo by RDNE Stock project Pexels)

As opposed to live casino game news, bonuses or regulatory stories, every so often we like to take a look at the darker side of the gambling entertainment scene.

Therefore, once again, I am back with another crime watch news report collating as many of the latest wrongdoings into one bite-size news report.

If this style of the topic is your cup of tea (as the English like to say), then I’ve already published some interesting crime in gambling stories. The latest was a Snake Eyes dice team sliding dice. By the way, Snake Eyes is Craps. What an interesting story that was as these guys took in a 6-figure haul. And if you read that story, you can track back to a man that had magnets placed into his fingers to chat the dice tables!

In this week’s crime in gambling news, there is some horrific criminality to report whereby one individual in the UK scammed women. A complaint in New Zealand about Entain’s advertising strategy being illegal is also on the cards. Plus, a Finish streamer lands himself a slap on the wrist and a suspended jail sentence.

More crime news: There is the Snake Eyes team that cheated Vegas above, and you can also find more Gambling Crime, Cheats, and Gossip here!

UK Fraudster Cons Women out of £200,000 Now Behind Bars!

In the case of picking on the vulnerable, news reports show that Sajad Hussain from Swindon used dating websites to meet women and extort them of their hard-earned cash.

He used the money to fuel an out-of-control gambling habit. Even though this guy was married (I sue ‘was’ as I presume, he isn’t now), he used dating websites to meet women and became the lover. Once he made his bed, he would use excuses as to why he needed money from them and then use the funds to fund his gambling habit.

Overall, he extorted £200,000+ over 7 years from 2014 to 2020. Victim number one gave up £15,500. The next lady is out of pocket a whopping £140,000, and finally, before he was caught, he swindled another £48,500.

Where is he now: In prison. A Swindon Crown Court judge put him behind bars for 5+ years. He will likely spend around 3 years in prison. He will also need to pay back any future earnings to these women.

Entain in a Pickle in New Zealand Over Illegal Advertising

After such good news when Entain announced its takeover of TAB New Zealand on a 25-year deal, the London Stock Exchange firm is back on the wrong side of the news. According to reports coming out of the country, the gambling giant has breached multiple advertising laws under the New Zealand Gambling Act.

The issue lies with the fact that Entain began its advertising campaign prior to becoming an NZ entity. Overseas gambling sites in New Zealand cannot advertise in the country. As a result, Entain is now looking to shut down all its operations in the country deemed as overseas gambling. This would mean the end of Party Casino and Bwin for New Zealand online casino and sports betting fans. A transition to Tab NZ for those members I would assume.

On the other side of the coin, transacting online gambling with customers in New Zealand is not illegal. However, Entain will still shut down its two largest gambling sites in order to meet NZ gambling laws.

Last year, Entain took a £17 million hit from the UKGC for a variety of breaches including advertising, anti-money laundering, and responsible gambling failures.

Finish Streamer Avoids Jail by the Skin of His Teeth

Lauri Kangas known as Lateksituppi has allegedly been handed down a 50-day suspended jail sentence after he was caught promoting illegal online gambling sites. On top of this, he has to pay a fine of 51,300 EUR. The casino games he was promoting are those not listed under the Veikkaus Oy Finnish gambling monopoly, and as such, legal action came forth.

Local media does no paint a pretty picture of this individual. He is supposed to have said that the system is jealous of his success. Furthermore, when he arrived, he parked his classy gold-coloured SUV in parking spaces reserved for the police. What a big up to the authorities!

According to Finland’s Lotteries Act, the influencer’s advertisements to a following of more than 61,000 people is illegal. It’s odd because there are plenty of online casinos advertising their services in Finland.
