Free Bet Blackjack is a popular live dealer table game that does exactly what the name implies. It offers free bets. In particular, free splits and/or double downs, but only under certain conditions, which I will explain in the section below.

Now the Evolution live casino brand has decided to expand on the game’s original single-seat version and extend it to seven giving the game a more authentic land-based casino vibe. As a blackjack player myself, I often play the one-seat version, and I would say it averages around 80 to 100 players at one time.

I also dabble in other unlimited versions of the game like ‘Infinite Blackjack’ and often see 200 to 300 players. As a result, and surprisingly, it’s not the most popular variant out there despite the free bets available. Now I have to say, I prefer playing 7-seat blackjack, so I imagine that’s why Evolution has decided to create a 7-seat version to attract more players like me.

That being said, if you are a blackjack player like me, then you will predominantly play at a table with the most liberal rules. For those of you who are new to the game, take a look at my blackjack guide I wrote covering all the rules and how each of them affects the percentage of the house edge (return to player – RTP). Case and point, despite the ‘free bet’ rules, the RTP is 98.45% giving the house an edge of 1.55%, which for blackjack is actually quite high.

As for the original version of Evolution’s Live Free Bets Blackjack, it is a ‘one-seat’ table using unlimited technology, which means there is no queuing as there is no limit to the number of players. Everyone plays the same hand, but not everyone gets the same result. It entirely depends on the individual player’s actions – ‘hit’, ‘stand’, ‘double’, or ‘split’. If you choose to ‘stand’, you will need to wait for the dealer to complete the hand as other players may choose to ‘hit’.

With the new 7-seat version, you can play multiple seats. However, rather than everyone playing the same hand, everyone plays their own hand. Specifically, this is not an unlimited version of the game.

Other Blackjack Tables (House Edge %): Live Power Blackjack offers a house edge of 1.2% (98.8% RTP), Live Infinite Blackjack by Evolution has a house edge of 0.53% (99.47% RTP), Live All Bets Blackjack by Playtech comes with a house edge of 99.46% (0.54% RTP), and Quantum Blackjack a house edge of 0.48% (99.57% RTP).

How to Play Free Bets Blackjack

You can select 1 to 7 seats depending on how many are available. From here, you play blackjack in the same way as you would any other table. However, there are free bets to consider, and a couple of dealer rules to take note of.

  • Dealer Rules: Firstly, if the dealer bust with a hand total of 22, all bets are pushed. Effectively this is a draw, and your bet(s) are returned.
  • Double Down Rules: You can double in any initial hand total. If the hand value is 9, 10 or 11, the bet is free. All other double-downs will require you to place a bet equal to the amount of your ante.
  • Split Rules: If you split Aces, only a single card will be dealt to each hand. If you split on A-A, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8 or 9-9, the bet is free. For splits on 10-10, J-J, Q-Q or K-K, you will need to place another bet equal to your original bet on your split hand.
  • Side Bets: There are three side bets. 21+3, Perfect Pairs and Bet Behind. The Bet Behind option means you get to bet on other players’ hands while you queue for a seat. The RTP for the side bets is heavily in favour of the house, so it’s best to avoid these.
  • Basic Strategy: This is an H17 NDAS game played with 8 decks. Make sure you use the correct basic strategy chart and do not deviate from recommended moves. This way, you will play according to the 1.55% house edge.
  • Other Rules: If you have 6 cards that total 21, you automatically win the hand. You can also take insurance. Although, I always suggest avoiding insurance as according to probability, you will lose this bet more often than you win.
