In the world of online gambling regulator gossip, there is plenty to talk about. And you can find out what’s happening across the globe in one bitesize chunk right here in this news piece.

There is a considerable UKGC £594,000 fine for one gambling company. The UKGC has dished out a large number of fines during 2023, which I will get into below with a neat table for you to peruse.

Another poignant regulator gossip piece on Livecasinocentral concerns what is happening with the Curacao licensing authority.

With the finance minister announcing a clean-up of its gambling industry, operators, software providers, and casino players alike are looking on in anticipation of a much-improved licensing framework. I’ll bring complete coverage of this scenario below, too.

In the final section of this news, I’ll briefly bullet point some of the top stories on gambling. There have also been a series of betting tax hikes across some jurisdictions, ex-convicts getting a second chance, and some exciting gambling gossip coming out of China.

Curacao Licensing 1-Year Extension Issued to Operators

There are 1,000s of online casinos and sports betting websites operating under Curacao’s master licensing frameworks. With its popularity, comes attention.
Some areas that have piqued the interest of those scrutinising regulatory practices within the industry have long been a hot topic in gambling regulator gossip columns. These include AML laws, responsible gamble gambling practices to quell the issue of gambling addiction and a lack of a casino disputes complaint system for players.

Recently the first step to improving these issues came via the Curacao finance minister. You can read the full report here via last month’s Curacao to Strengthen Gambling Framework news.

UKGC Fines Continue to Rick Operators Failing to Implement the Law

A company in the UK known as Star Racing is the latest operator to fall foul of UKGC fines. Even after the momentous multi-million Sterling fines dished out to companies like Entain and William Hill (888 Holdings), Star Racing fines are down to the same issues!

The fine dished out is £ 594,000. It is for not following AML and the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing procedures. It also was in breach of foreign company money laundering rules. And the good old fine for not contacting customers in order to carry out the proper checks put in place to prevent gambling addiction.

See the table to the right (desktop) or below (desktop) for a list of recent UKGC fines.

More Gambling Regulator Gossip!

As the gambling regulator gossip columns are brim with news stories, I’ve picked a few interesting ones from across the globe.

  • KSA Netherlands: The Dutch authority has published a report summarising how it has actively tacked illegal games of chance in the country. It uncovered illegal Bitcoin and land-based gambling operations.
  • Betfair Danish Fines: Once again, Betfair is in the news. This time it is the subject of a fine coming via the Danish regulatory authority for AML failures.
  • USA: North Carolina could become the 9th iGaming state in the USA. It would be the 8th to allow online casinos. Although Nevada is an iGaming state, it only allows online poker.
  • ATG Overturns Fine: The SGA in Sweden has overturned a SEK 6 million fine. That’s €525,000 or £447,657 saved by ATG thanks to a successful appeal.
