888 Holdings Launches Mr Green in Germany: Spearheading Their Expansion Plan

News that has already spread like wildfire through our sister site in the German language is the presence of Mr Green live casino in the German iGaming market. The GlüNeuRStV gaming licensing came earlier this year, and 888 Holdings has wasted no time getting the ball rolling by launching its Mr Green brand.

888 Holdings’ online gaming brand, Mr Green, has launched in Germany, making it available to play on the 888 proprietary technology platform for the first time in the country under new licensing. As the platform already accepts making it a perfect fit for the market already.

On top of this, its in-house proprietary platform means 888Casino, 888Poker and 888Sports have already been successfully deployed in numerous other countries in Europe and North America. As a result, 888 Holdings has been able to take advantage of the 888 brand’s established presence in yet another European gaming market.

Amit Berkovich, VP of poker and managing director of the Rest of the World at 888 Holdings, sees Mr Green as a spearhead brand for the wider group in Germany, a market that offers strategic growth opportunities. It comes as no surprise to us either as we have reviewed the Mr Green live casino, and it gets a double thumbs up.

Current 888 Holdings Woes May Soon Subside

The launch of Mr Green via 888 Holdings into the German iGaming market still shows the company is ambitious. However, it seems increasingly likely that the London Stock Exchange PLC could face fresh challenges this year once the UK white paper officially comes into action. It needs to solve regulatory failings before the company can begin to report profits.

Recently, 888, the parent company of William Hill, has agreed to pay a regulatory settlement of $23.67 million imposed by the UK Gambling Commission and is taking responsibility for past failures of its subsidiary; however, the company is optimistic about its future success and has implemented an action plan to prevent further violations and improve compliance standards across the gaming industry, while remaining committed to working closely with regulators and stakeholders.

  • 888 will pay a regulatory settlement of $23.67 million imposed by the UK Gambling Commission.
  • William Hill breached several social responsibilities and anti-money laundering regulations between 2020 and 2021, resulting in a regulatory fine.
  • The breaches included not providing customers with sufficient safeguards and failing to check the source of funds of its customers.

Question Remain About the Future of 888 Holdings

One question is whether the company as a whole the subject of could be takeover bids. We have seen Arsitrcrat pull out of a potential Playtech PLC takeover. Plus, MGM Resorts International and another by DraftKings pulled out of a possible takeover of Entain.

Both Entain and Playtech are London Stock Exchange companies, they are heavily involved in the UK market’s land-based and online gambling scenes. They also distribute casino games and casino platforms. I can’t help but feels the commonalities between these two companies with 888 Holdings. And that leads me to wonder whether Aristocrat, MGM or DraftKings may see 888 as a potential suitor for their expansion ambitions.

For MGM and DraftKings, this would also mean gaining a business that operates in North America. 888 operates its online casino in Ontario Canada as well as in New Jersey and Delaware in the USA. Other US operations include its online poker network in Nevada, which links up with Delaware and New Jersey. Via these states, a system dubbed the All-American Poker Network (APN) is sharing online poker player pools between the states to beef up prize pools and the number of player registrations for tournaments.

It seems like prime picking for MGM or DraftKings that’s for sure. And for Aristocrat, an Australian online gambling and land-based casino supplier, 888Sports operates in the country. And to add the icing to the cake. For all three companies, there is also a chance to tap into the UK retail sports betting market. An acquisition of 888 Holdings would mean acquiring William Hill betting shops.

Of course, this is purely speculative on my part. However, with shareholders not happy about the tumbling iGaming stock prices (our latest 888 iGaming stock prices coverage), there is every chance they would vote in favour of a takeover in view of more promising times ahead under new management.
