On the poker circuit, yet another high roller event has declared its winner. This time it was 2022 Super High Roller Bowl Europe, which took place in Cyprus on Friday the 15th of April. Jake Schindler who recorded his second career win of $3 million won the event, which required a $250,000 buy-in. However, while Schindler was able to take down this title, Phil Ivey won the overall SHRB series.

The live poker event attracted 32 entrants who were willing to part ways with $250,00 to create a lucrative $8 million prize pool that just the top five players would share between them. Friday was the last day of the event and by that time, that 32-player field had been reduced to just seven. Two of those would leave empty-handed despite making the final table of the event. Eventual winner Schindler began the day as the slight chip leader with 1.5 million chips. Not far behind were Paul Phua and Chritoph Vogelsang who both had around 1.34 million.

It did not take long for the first elimination to occur after Michael Addamo was sent home with nothing to show for. It took nearly three hours until the next elimination and this came about when Imsirovic went all in with pocket kings against the pocket aces of Adams and came out the loser.

At this point, the action at the table loosened up as all players knew they had won at least $560,000. Teun Mulder quickly fell before Adams would become the next casually just after the dinner break. Heads up began once Schindler eliminated Vogelsang and regained the chip lead with 5.7 million. His opponent, Phua had less than half that with 2.3 million. It was going to be an uphill struggle from here but players have come back from far worse situtaions in the past.

As it proved, however, heads up did not last too long as Schindler used his chip advantage to pressure Phua out of many hands. He was able to pick up blinds even without holding stellar cards himself. Once Phua did decide to fight back, it came too little too late and eventually pushed all in with the Q-4 against Schindler’s Q-10. As the final board played out, neither hit a pair and the kicker of Schindler proved enough for him to take the crown and the $3.2 million that came with it.

How it Finished

1. Jake Schindler: $3.2 million
2. Paul Chua: $2.08 million
3. Christoph Vogelsang: $1.28 million
4. Timothy Adams: $880,000
5. Teun Mulder: $560,000

Phil Ivey Becomes the SHRB Europe Champion After Crushing the Series

Despite winning the tournament, Schindler fell well short of winning the overall SHRB series. He eventuall finished in 7th place. However, with $3.2 million now in the bank account, I am not too sure he is that bothered about that poker news. He would have known he had no chance of winning the overall SHRB title.

It was Phil Ivey, the legend himself, that won the SHRB Europe series. Having won two events, gone deep in several others and won a total of $2.8 million in prize money, Ivey scored a total of 1725 points during the season. That was enough to put him well out in front of his closest challenger Daniel Dvoress on 1155. Jason Koon, Elton Tsang, and Danny Tang rounded up the top five in the series. In other words, Ivey crushed the series proving that he is still among the best poker players on the planet.
