In tech updates, the gaming developer White Hat Studios launched an innovative promotional feature exclusively for BetMGM at first. The potential deal comes just before the hugely popular 2024 Super Bowl, one of the most-watched events every year for NFL football. For BetMGM, having odds and links directly on Twitter would give them great exposure to Twitter’s many sports fans. Twitter users would also find it more convenient to check betting lines during live games.

Finding New Sources of Money

For Twitter’s owner Elon Musk, deals like this could help diversify where they get revenue from besides just ads and subscriptions. Sports betting could turn into a key new money-maker as Musk tries to rapidly increase how much cash Twitter pulls in. As one of the largest sports betting companies in America with connections to entertainment heavyweights MGM and Entain, BetMGM already reaches over a dozen U.S. states. A high-profile Twitter deal would further extend their brand nationwide. With Twitter use skyrocketing around live sports and news, the potential partnership seems like a win-win for both sides. Though still unofficial, the deal shows Twitter’s growing openness to new business models under Musk.

This launch builds on an existing White Hat-BetMGM partnership. White Hat recently set up its player account system for BetMGM in New York, continuing rollouts across multiple states in recent months.

Lawsuit Against BetMGM for Targeting Problem Gambler Tossed Out

This week, a judge threw out a lawsuit against the gambling company BetMGM. The person who sued claimed BetMGM kept urging him to gamble even knowing he was addicted. The man behind the lawsuit is Sam Antar from New York. He is the nephew of Eddie Antar, the founder of the old electronics chain “Crazy Eddie’s.” Antar accused BetMGM of violating consumer protection laws. He said they offered bonuses and deals to keep him gambling after he bet over $30 million.In the end, the judge ruled BetMGM didn’t break any laws. New Jersey gambling rules don’t make casinos stop folks who gamble too much. Since those industry regulations come first, the judge tossed out Antar’s case.

Antar’s lawyer says they will appeal. He believes consumer laws ought to guard problem gamblers too. For now BetMGM is off the hook, though Antar hopes to reverse that.
