As reported by the Sun newspaper, a Spanish man who previously struggled financially has revealed how, starting in 1991, he has tricked land-based casinos and won £1.6 million. Gonzalo Garcia Pelayo earned his fortune on the European roulette tables at brick-and-mortar casinos across the world.

However, it is important to note that the way he did this is perfectly legal. The 75-year-old began to notice that certain numbers would land more regularly than others, so made it his mission to understand why. Initially, he just sat in the Casino Gran Madrid, watched, and recorded as many roulette spins as possible.

He quickly learned that each table had tiny imperfections. This meant that certain numbers would land more frequently than others would. He took his findings to his personal computer and used it to fully analyse the results he had collected. Using that information, and doing further analysis at other casinos, he was able to win an estimated £1.6 million.

As the money came pouring in, the father-of-five even got two of his kids to help him out. He sent Ivan and Vanessa to monitor roulette wheels at casinos while he spent his time improving his profits.

Eventually, the casinos became suspicious and caught on about what Gonzalo was up to. They even took him to court. However, as his method is not classed as cheating, they ruled that what he had done was perfectly legal. Essentially, all he was doing was using historical data to make an informed prediction.

To create his system, Gonzalo:

  • Recorded 30,000 spins at the Casino Gran Madrid
  • Realised that tiny differences in the size of pockets and the wheel’s gears
  • He discovered that uneven floors could create imperfections
  • His analysis showed that some numbers would come up at an average of every 28 spins
  • Using his system, he reveals he had a 6% advantage

The Family Travelled the World Using the System

Within a year of using the system, Gonzalo and his children had already raked in £620,000. The casinos in Spain banned them, so they had no choice but to try the trick further afield. The three earned the remaining million or so by hitting casinos in Australia, Las Vegas, Austria, Denmark, and Holland.

Gonzalo has since written a 2003 book detailing his exploits called ‘The Fabulous Story of Pelayos. His story has also made the silver screen in the 2012 movie ‘Winning Streak’.
