Blackjack Games with the Lowest House Edge

I uncover virtual and live blackjack games with the highest RTP (lowest house edge) and compiled 2 lists for all you blackjack fans out there! (Photo by Photo by Tom M on Unsplash)

When I play at online casinos, I go through phases. I’ll play slots for a while, then live game shows, and then move to online poker. I’ll dabble in some Sic Bo and Baccarat for a short time. More recently, my latest fad and go-to game has been Blackjack.

While grinding away in my latest session, being the casino journalist I am, I decided it would be a great idea to find Blackjack tables with the highest return to the player (RTP). I also took advantage of casinos that provide live casino cashback with low wagering requirements, which you can too using the Livecasinocentral bonus guide here.

What made me write this guide – an idea that just sprung up!

Firstly, I knew it would make a great news story/article for my next news piece here on Livecasinocentral. And so, voila! Here it is… Second, I wanted to apply the best-fit basic strategy, which worked well. If, by popular demand, any of you decide to request an overview of my sessions in the comments section below, then I’ll make a special news report covering my gameplay and choice of basic strategy. You can even request I play a session on a particular blackjack table, and I’ll happily oblige and record a session and post it here in the Livecasinocentral news columns.

Spoiler alert! The blackjack title with the highest RTP was not a live casino game. So much for finding a ‘live blackjack; title!

To explain further, I got sidetracked. Initially, I aimed to find live blackjack games with the highest RTP. The title of this news report was ‘Live Casino Games with the Highest RTPs’. I had to delete ‘Live’ from the title. Me being me, and my obsession with trying a variety of blackjack titles, I began fishing around virtual blackjack games. Okay, a slight detour, so below, I have also included virtual blackjack games!

RTP Vs House Edge: As we know, not everyone is an experienced player. A quick explanation is due. RTP is the theoretical percentage chance of  winning your money back in a session. For example, 99.5% is about the average for Blackjack. House Edge is the theoretical chance of the casino winning. The average is 0.5% for Blackjack.

Why Play Blackjack?

From my personal experience, my passion for Blackjack led me to write this ‘Online Blackjack Games with the Highest RTP’ article. I like this game because I have more control over the percentage of my win ratio versus baccarat, roulette, slots, game shows or Sic Bo. That is simply down to basic strategy, which you’ll learn more about in the live blackjack guide here if you are interested.

You could also say I am a bit of sheep. I also like playing Blackjack because most media covering blackjack claims it is the most played card game versus the house. I’ll get to the popularity of blackjack in more detail below.

Should you play Blackjack side bets?

I don’t when I am playing a strict basic strategy. However, when side bets are available, I do keep a keen eye out to see how long it has been since a particular side bet has paid out. The problem with side bets is the RTP is far lower versus playing blackjack following a basic strategy according to the table rules of the game I am playing. If I think it is time for an inevitable side bet result to be long overdue, I may sway a bit and take the side bet option. Now, most pro blackjack players would not do this. They strictly stick to the main game, but I like to spice things up a bit here and there.

Of course we do! Everything we try to do here on Livecasinocentral comes from our experience playing live dealer games, and we want to share what we see with you, hence the honest answer is ‘no’ do not play side bets if you want to become a consistently profitable blackjack player.

Is Poker More Popular Than Blackjack?

Notice how I said, ‘ versus the house’ in the ‘Why Play Blackjack’ section when explaining it is the most popular card game. This is just in case you are a poker fan and thinking – ‘Poker is more popular than blackjack globally, isn’t it?’. The answer is yes. Yet, we would be talking about multi-player poker, so players were playing versus other players.

The popularity comparison would be Blackjack played versus the house compared to Poker played versus the house like Caribbean Stud, 3-Card Poker, Teen Patti, and Texas Hold’em. For those of you who are new to casino gameplay, we can interchange the phrase ‘versus the house’ with versus a ‘dealer’.

Surprising Las Vegas Research Study Shows Baccarat Outperforms Blackjack

Blackjack is often dubbed the most popular card game online and in land-based casinos played ‘versus the house’. OK, so that’s a bold claim because, in Asia, Baccarat is the king of cards. This instigated me to check on my claim that Blackjack is the most popular game in the West. The results from one research I found took me by surprise.

An interesting study by the UNLV Center for Gaming Research shows Blackjack accounted for 77% of casino games, but by 2022, the game accounts for just 48% of revenue. It also says that Baccarat outearns Blackjack now. Also, games like mini-baccarat, three-card, and pai gow poker have increased revenue share. Roulette’s revenue has increased by 100%. Wow… I didn’t know this! Although this is just Las Vegas. Results will differ in other places and online.
