Some of the most popular casino stories are those covering real people and crime. And why not? iGaming partnerships, bonus offers, regulatory news, and new game releases are just one side of the industry.

So, I am back with some more UK gambling gossip just because it proves to be so popular. Who doesn’t like a bit of gossip?

And today there’s some exciting news from Europe’s largest gambling entertainment zone.

There’s a crime caper, and the story of a millionaire man haplessly trying to recover his gambling losses by taking a gambling company to court.

Plus, just when the UK gambling white paper makes it seem like the government is against casinos, one MP successfully lobbied in favour of casinos to keep high rollers coming back to UK casinos. It can’t hurt after all, as the government needs the 1% levy outlined in the white paper to help non-profits tackle gambling addiction!

Britsh Women Scams £1.6 Million to Feed Gambling Hobby & Penchant For Vacation Caravans

How on earth some people don’t think they will get caught is often mystifying!

Especially when the sum involves scamming their workplace to the tune of £1.6 million. Well, Karen Brailsford, a cunning financial rogue’s fraudulent activities went unnoticed for quite some time. At one point, she stole £300,000 over a 12-month period and apparently was getting away with it. According to the subsequent police investigation revealed in court records, she did all this so she could gamble, purchase a Mercedes, and buy herself a luxury holiday caravan. Alas, karma finally came knocking when someone in the company saw something amiss and the police were called.

It looks like she couldn’t resist dipping in for more after her first swindle. In the end, the amount grew so large, Ms Brailsford’s actions caught up with her. Unfortunately for her employer, it turns out she only had a total of £130,314.59 remaining. However, her luxury home, Mercedes Benz complete with a private number plate, and designer clothes will all be seized.

The Lesson: Well it’s certainly not if first succeed do it again. Maybe she would have gotten away if she stopped. But, no one likes a thief so fair play to whoever spotted the missing money. Let’s hope the employer recovered a decent portion of its losses.

UK Court Denies Millionaire His Refund Request from Star Sports

Sometimes a loss is too hard to take, and we tilt. It seems a millionaire took his tilt to another level by blaming an online gambling site for ignoring his addiction.

Scott O’Brien said that his love affair with gambling turned into an illness. He even claimed that his gambling problem almost pushed him to suicide after losing close to £ 100,000. He requested a refund, but he took the operator to court after being turned down. He claimed that Star Sports did not protect him from his obsessive gambling. However, Star Sports said he was winning regularly until his last bet, which does not indicate problem gambling.

The judge sided with the operator saying there was no evidence to a claim made by O’Brien saying he’d informed the site of a gambling addiction, he should have used responsible gambling tools, and the judge also agreed he did show signs of a problem gambling.

As per the UK Gambling Commission framework, all gambling sites should have responsible gambling tools that allow you to set bet limits, deposit limits, loss limits, or self-exclude. On the lists on the live casino gambling sites UK page feature these monetary tools as well as a reality check that shows your session time, casino balance and win losses.

Surprise Twist as MP Lobbies in Favour of UK Casinos

Conservative MP Philip Davies’ lobbied the UK culture secretary on behalf of Mayfair casino Les Ambassadeurs, which essentially affects all casinos. His point of persuasion relates to providing high rollers with a line of credit. This measure is part of the recently drafted, much-debated, white paper. Most MPs point the finger at gambling to gain popularity and deflect attention away from their lack of ability to do their job.

Mr Davies must be pretty comfortable with how he conducts government business as he’s taken a U-turn by not following the sheep and instead stuck his neck out in support of the casinos. Of course, his move has not come without some controversy!
