The sports betting and gaming websites in Ontario released financial outcomes for Q2 of 2022 on 25 October, by the government organization iGaming Ontario. According to the data, wagers in this province of Canada totaled more than CDN 6 billion (US$ 4.3 billion), and a total of CDN 267 million (US$ 191.9 million) was made from gaming.

From July 1 to September 30, there were 628,000 players with active accounts, averaging CDN 142 (US$ 102) for each user in monthly spending. iGaming Ontario neither discloses the specifics of each operator’s income nor does it do so in accordance with iGaming regulations.

These numbers indicate an improvement above the Q1 results that were made public at the end of August. The market experienced total bets of CDN 4.07 billion ($3.09 billion) during the quarter, the first in activity for the province, resulting in total gaming income of CDN 162 million (US$ 123.9 million) for the time period.

In total, there were only 18 operators, 31 live gambling venues, and 492,000 players with active accounts at that time. There are now 42 websites and 42 gambling operators overall, providing services in the Ontario regulated market.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has given operators until October 31 to completely switch from the illegal market to the legal one as the latter continues to expand and solidify itself. The AGCO stated that if a registrant does not adhere to the Standard, the AGCO will “take necessary regulatory action against such registration” and “risk having their application for registration refused” for those who are not in compliance with the new standard as of that date.

In the near future, operators including BetRegal, Kaizen Gaming, Bet99 and Pinnacle are anticipated to enter the regulated sector. Before the end of 2022, 73 gaming outlets could be operational in the territory, according to regulators.

Market Increases Expected to Continue: Numbers are anticipated to increase further and then soar when the market is fully operational during Q3 and Q4. According to projections made in the province’s spring 2022 budget, iGaming Ontario will earn a net revenue increase of CDN 31 million (US$ 22.3 million) in 2024–2025 from CDN 18 million (US$ 12 million) in 2022–2023.

Is Canada’s Ontario Live Casino Market Showing Signs of Success?

The straight answer is yes. Evolution was the only live dealer casino game provider when the market launched on 4 April (Q2 2022) this year. However, since then Playtech live games have become available and more recently BetGames (formerly BetGamesTV) entered Ontario iGaming. Thus far there are now three top live dealer platforms available to operators.

Some of the most well-known operators hosting live dealer lobbies in their casinos are also operating in Ontario, Canada. If you play at MGA or UKGC-licenced casinos, you’ll know 888Casino, Bwin, Bet365, LeoVegas, PokerStars, and Gate777. Evolution is currently available at 888Casino, BetMGM, LeoVegas, Rush Street Interactive casinos and theScore Bet, while Playtech and BetGames are to thrash out deals to bring their live games online.

Some brands are not available at overseas live casinos: With all this in mind, there is a catch for live casino players still playing MGA online casinos. If your casino hosts live tables and game shows from Evolution, BetGames or Playtech, you will no longer have access to these brands. Their software delivery systems for these suppliers now block access from players with Ontario IP addresses, unless you are playing at an establishment that has the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) licencing.
