SBC 2022 Judge Selection

On 22 September 2022, late this year, the SBC 2022 event will kickstart in The Palau Nacional in Barcelona. The event is yet to present a shortlist as nominations are still open, but the judges’ panel is already formulated with live dealer platform BetGames proud to announce that Aiste Garneviciene will be part of the judging process.

Aiste Garneviciene was recognised as a talent in iGaming in 2020 when she picked up the ‘Leader of the Year’ award in the ‘Operator & Supplier Awards’ category. She was then invited as a judge in the SBS 2021 awards ceremony last year, which took place in December at the same venue. She has now been invited back with a panel of other expert judges with deep knowledge of the online as well as land-based gambling industries.

The event will host 1,000 guests (200 more than last year’s allotted 800 guests) and is put on to acknowledge operators and affiliates for their performances and tech-savvy in the iGaming and sports betting industry. Even though the official name for the SBC is ‘Sports Betting Community’ and originates in the US, it is now a popular event for networking and brand awards, and an event we regularly report on especially highlighting live casino suppliers.

Aiste Garneviciene said in the BetGames news announcement, “It’s not only an honour and a privilege to be asked to judge, it’s also a fascinating experience – one where I can see in great detail how companies push, overcome barriers and truly raise the bar – something that encourages others in our industry to follow suit. I can’t wait to help judge this year’s SBC nominations.”

Predictions for SBC 2022 (Evolution Vs BetGames for ‘Live Casino Supplier’

Both BetGames (when it was BetGames/TV) and Evolution have won the SBC ‘Live Casino Supplier’ of the award. Last year Evolution took down the award, but in 2020 BetGames won the SBC 2020 ‘Live Casino Supplier’ of the year award, which was the first year this award was added into the ‘Supplier Awards Sports & Casino’ category. Adding to this, in 2019, BetGames.TV won the SBC 2019 ‘Rising Star in Casino Innovation’ award.

I think there’s going to be a tussle in competition between the two brands here once again. That said, anything can happen, and another named nominee could steal the award from under their noses. Obviously, there are now over 30+ live casino brands whereas, in the 2019 to 2021 competitions, there were only around 20. That said brands such as EGR Interactive, On-Air Entertainment, and Stakelogic for example are new to the scene, but what that means is next year will be incredibly interesting when it comes to the nominees’ shortlist and the live casino awards themselves.

We’ll be covering the event: Our main focus will be on the live casino and casino operator awards. It is difficult to see anyone push off the ‘Innovation in Casino Entertainment’ award because it has won the award in 2018 (for Lightning Roulette), 2019, 2020, and 2021 events, and I can see the brand winning it again this year with its new Cash or Crash release.

Recap of the SBC 2021 Awards & Previous Events

Last year’s SBC 2021 event, also held at the Palau Nacional in Barcelona, saw known live casino brands win awards. Winners were Pragmatic Play (Casino / Slots Developer of the Year award), Swintt (Rising Star in Casino Innovation / Software of the Year award), Evolution (Live Casino Supplier of the Year award & Innovation in Casino Entertainment of the Year award), and BetConstruct (Multi-Channel Supplier of the Year award). We also tracked the success of Trustly because it’s a famous payment provider and it took down the ‘Payment Solution of the Year’ award.

SBC 2021: Last year there were 5 categories, which is the same as the 2020 event, while there were 43 awards in total (2 less than this year’s 2022 event). 2 awards under the ‘Operator & Supplier Awards’ category, 3 awards under the ‘Affiliate Awards’ category, 20 awards under the ‘Supplier Awards’ category, and 4 awards under the ‘Payment Awards’ category.
