In South Africa, the laws are clear. Online casino games are not permitted to showcase on gambling sites regulated under betting licensing in the country.
However, there are several instances in which live casino brands have formed partnerships with sports betting websites operating under domestic South African online gambling frameworks.

That means there is a growing number of sports betting websites that have a casino gaming section despite the current oddities in the laws regulating iGaming and sports betting online in the country. Those laws fall under the National Gambling Board (NGB).

Brands such as Pragmatic Play Live, BetGames, and TVBet are already operating under domestic licensing in the country.
For the time being, it seems the laws are governing these games under a sports betting framework which is why the likes of Evolution which holds licensing with the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board (WCGRB), can operate in the country.

Most of the above software providers are available alongside software providers not currently operating in South Africa. As a result, live dealer games via the live casinos SA lists here host a wider selection of live dealer tables and game shows. However, it seems domestic B2B supply deals are also on the cards.

Which live dealer brands are operating domestically? By looking back at previous iGaming partnership news stories here on livecasinocentral, the reports reveal several live dealer software providers making deals in South Africa. Plus, by looking at the sports betting sites, I reveal other live casino platforms available in domestic sports betting sites in SA.

Are iGaming Sites Operating Under Domestic Licensing in SA Worthwhile?

We always recommend playing at an online casino, or any online gambling site for that matter, if it falls under a local iGaming or sports betting licensing framework. Doing so means local laws apply to you and a local legal firm can help you in case of a casino vs player dispute.

However, the law in South Africa currently states that online gambling sites cannot host online casino games, so there is a risk factor involved here. The legality of these supply deals is not set in stone and so I cannot say whether the online gambling services offered by the website themselves are going to end up being hit with a legal or political backlash.

Right now there are plenty of overseas live casino websites offering a far wider range of live dealer games, and these sites offer bets using ZAR. There is no law that prevents overseas iGaming sites from offering gambling services to casino players in SA. And you will have access to far more software providers as per the live casino platforms guide here. On top of this, casinos under the MGA licensing offer player protection and legal mediation services in case of a casino dispute. These services apply to non-EU citizens thus covering players in South Africa.

The bottom line: For sports betting, stick to domestic sports betting sites in SA. As for iGaming, use an overseas online casino where there is no risk of a backlash should political pressure force the government to clamp down on loopholes used by sports betting sites to host casino games.
